Trick…or wicked treat!
It was a devastating dirty trick—Joey Silvia just found out her boyfriend of two years is married. What. A. Dick. Joey knows her best chance to get over one guy is to get under another. Of course, heading home to her family’s remote cabin in Oregon poses some challenges in the “available men” department…until she discovers this cabin comes with its own hot handyman!
Holy crap, Chris Steffensen. When did her brother’s best friend turn into a hard-bodied pile of blond-bearded hotness? He’s the perfect Halloween treat—and a surprisingly dirty rebound guy. For a couple of weeks, anyway. Except that Chris has other ideas…like proving to Joey that this blast from the past is a whole lot more than a naughty Halloween hookup.
The chilly nights are beginning to move in and there’s no better way to stay warm than with a sexy little novella like this! It’s a bewitchingly sweet story with some serious heat and great, giggle-inducing lines. Between the hot alpha handyman and the strong-willed heroine, I don’t know if I can pick a favorite!
Wait… yes I can.
It’s the handy handyman who closely resembles Chris Evans, of course. 😉
In this novella, we have a new taste of Tiffany Reisz’s wicked words and I really enjoyed it. This may not be as deep, dark, and twisty as some of her other (much larger) novels but, it did not disappoint at all. This was my first taste of a Harlequin Blaze and, so far, I’m quite impressed with the heat and plot line within such a snack-sized book.
Here we meet Joey, her brother Dillon, and Dillon’s best friend Chris. There’s history between them here that adds a nice emotional layer to the journey that I found sweet, endearing, and sad at times. Between Joey’s long term relationship that just blew up and Chris’ lack of one, I wasn’t sure how these two would find their way towards each other from the get go but…I was soooo wrong about that! Reisz did not hold the electric heat back here and before I knew it, these two were setting the pages on fire! O.O
Wham. Bam. Thank you, Chris!
To say these two have some attraction and spark is an understatement. Now, I’ve read some quick smut before but, never have I seen such a connection grow so naturally between two characters so quickly that just feels right and I believe that’s where the bits of history we get to learn actually enriches their moments.
Now, it’s a no-brainer when I say that I adore Chris. I mean, what’s not to like? He’s a flannel wearing hottie who’s good with his hands, knows how to handle his wood, and is fiercely loyal. He’s also quite the alpha which any smut reading junky can certainly appreciate too. Besides his darling good looks, he’s also incredibly creative which is a nice change to the usual alphas out there who are just suited up CEOs, aggressive fighters, or scary gruff bikers. All in all, there’s nothing to not like about him. 🙂
As for Joey, I found her charmingly fun even though her life was crumbling quickly. Her strong personality was not abrasive or catty, which happens with some assertive female characters, and she is just very realistic, down to earth, and the kinda girl I can totally see myself being friends with. On top of that, she has a killer bestie who had me in giggle snorts more times than I care to admit so obviously her choice in friends is right up my alley too.
All in all, this was a delightfully fun and sexy read with plenty of chemistry and a touch of drama that would make any reader sigh, smile, and laugh. If you are looking for a fun and cozy weekend read I suggest picking this one up! Reisz has done a great job transitioning from the heavier novels of her past to entice new readers into her wicked web of words and I know I’m certainly looking forward to the next two in this series.
Besides…who wouldn’t want that lickable cover on her bookshelf?
