Review:

Incredible, fascinating, and intense! Didn’t want to put it down–and couldn’t!

This was my first Sophie Jackson book but it won’t be my last! I am so thankful to have read this book when I did because it was the perfect pick me up heart-wrenching romance I needed! It blew me away! ❤

Kat and Wes have such an unbelievable love story that made for an addicting read. I fell hard for this book and you will too! 😀

Wes is in prison for his own “pound of flesh” (which we find out later what that all means to him! 😉 ) He’s always had the shortest end of the stick, but has learned to be strong after everything he’s been through. From a young age, he hasn’t had a real family or know what it’s like to be loved truly. He has his friends that he’ll do anything for, and not much else. He’s rebellious, smart, and loves to do things his way. Wes is the bad boy your mom told you to stay away from, but you can’t let go of…

…and Kat knows that all too well.

Kat made a promise to her dying dad, and she tends to keep it! She chose a teaching job at a nearby prison because she believes and knows she can help people. It’s her pound of flesh. Though her mother isn’t at all thrilled for her to be in such a dangerous place, Kat loves what she does and is learning a lot as well. Of course she’s worried daily, being surrounded by these men and what can happen if a fight breaks out, but she’s devoted to stick to her guns (no pun intended) and stay brave. For the most part, all her students are easy to handle, except Wes Carter. From the moment he enters her classroom, he’s brooding and unapologetic. Plus, his good looks don’t go unnoticed. He’s flipping hot! But, no. She can’t have feelings for him, all she wants to do is help this tense and grouchy guy because… Well, she doesn’t really know why. She knows she can help him with his parole and she wants to. She’s damn good at what she does and his behavior won’t stop her from doing what’s right.

Wes finds his new teacher beautiful. Ms. Lane doesn’t take his bs, and she wants to help him even though he acts like a jerk sometimes. He doesn’t deserve her kindness, but he’s willing to make an effort…for her.

He can’t put his finger on it, but there’s something so alluring about her. It’s like he knows her, but it’s impossible. He’s never met her before… Right?

Kat and Wes continue working together, and a friendship quickly blossoms. Their attraction to one another also grows, and it gets harder for them to deny it. The best moments for each are those hours together, and soon enough they can’t hold back the temptation any longer. 😮

Once Wes finds out Kat’s full name, he knows exactly why he finds her so captivating and why the pull she has on him is so magnetic. He was there the night her father died when her world came crashing down.

AHHHHH!! I can’t say it enough! THIS BOOK WAS SO FLIPPING GOOD!!! I loved it! I’m eagerly waiting for the next books because I loved Sophie’s writing. The chapters were beautifully written and the plot was intricate and thorough. I can tell there was a lot of heart put into this. This story was so rich and full of hope and love, it made my heart race!

I’m also in love with the cover too. The words that come to mind when I see it (before and after reading this story) are: redemption, strength, courage, and drive.

All those characteristics are in Kat and Wes’s story. Having been through tragic and hard times, they both want (and need) the peace to accept what’s happened and move forward. They’ve overcome so many things, and their love for each other is where they find the strength and courage to keep going. They both have a limitless drive to succeed, not just for each other but for themselves and for the promises they made. They want to be the best versions of themselves and they each have the self-determination to find the happiness they’re looking for. ❤

This was hands down one of my favorite books this year! I know you’ll enjoy it too! 😀 Run and grab your copy!
