Book description:

Storms can’t last forever…can they?

For five long years, Rae Ryan has lived in a storm over which she has no control. Little by little, everything has been taken away from her—her job, her relationship, her best friend and her home. Plagued by nightmares and a terrible family secret, she carries her scars as much on the inside as she does on the outside.

Hart Booker, another disappointment from her past, returns to Bar Harbor and shelters her from the rain. He reminds Rae that forgiveness is possible, happiness can be found on the other side of darkness, and beauty rests beneath her scars. But a sinister figure lingering in the background seems determined to pull Rae back into a past she’s been trying to outrun. Can she survive the storm and become part of the light she so desperately desires? Or is she destined to remain
Pulled Within?

Recommended for mature audiences due to explicit language, sexual abuse, disturbing situations, and drug use.

I’m still in complete awe of this book! Marni wrote a compelling and gripping story that is both sad yet beautiful. It made me feel so many things, I can’t put them into just a few words. I’m still reeling from my first read of it. It left me amazed and hopeful. 🙂

Spoilers ahead***

When we first met Rae in Pulled Beneath, I assumed–probably, like most readers–that she was a troubled and jealous girl who was angry for having her “ex-boyfriend” move on and find true love. Who wouldn’t be hurt and feel like, “Hey, what’s wrong with me?” But as we find out and discover in Pulled Within, there’s so much more to Rae from our initial thoughts. She is troubled, yes, but way more than that, she’s tormented, horrified, and pained by her memories.

As I read along, I had my suspicions of what caused her to shy away from people, but I did not expect what was actually revealed. And I must admit, it was very hard for me to continue to read after that. Maybe it’s because by that time I grew to love and care for this character and felt her anguish over the past she couldn’t change (as much as she wanted to). I couldn’t fathom being in her shoes and having that guilt on her shoulders. I wanted to befriend Rae and help her. I wanted to hug her and console her, while crying with her. Those feelings I experienced stemmed from the impressive and spectacular writing, and Marni. She really amazed me; she always does. SMH

Hart was the best supporting character to Rae. I loved him for being such a kind but alluring guy who loved Rae for her and was there for her no questions asked. He could see she was battling something bigger than what she let on, and he was there with her because he truly cared. He wanted to know what made her who she was, but I also understood how to him it almost didn’t matter. He wanted to help her, of course, but he also knew he would still be there even after she told him the truth. As he said, Rae was his; and he wanted to protect her because she was his one and only. She was always on his mind, even while he was gone.

AHH! He was such a genuine and nice guy that I wanted to hug him too!

Though they had a relationship years ago, they still know a lot about each other, and have a special bond that’s way more than just physical. The love they had before is still there and has only grown stronger thanks to what the two experienced in their time apart. Both have their own scars and can lean on each other for comfort and understanding. Absolutely love them together! 🙂

This was such a deep and moving story, it brought me to tears. It left me speechless. Really. Dare I say, I even loved it more than Saint and Drew’s story. Though both books are different, and from the same series, I loved this one on a different level. Rae and Hart stole my heart. ❤ So much so that I wish there was a scene at the end with Saint and Drew seeing how different Rae was than what they imagined. I envision them seeing Rae and Hart arm in arm smiling and just carefree, and happy. F-U Saint and Drew! haha I’m kidding…

…kinda. 😉

Go on! Catch up with the Bar Harbor Series! 😀
