Synopsis:

In this irresistible romantic romp, movie fanatic Kensington Shaw is thrown into love—Hollywood-style—when her gorgeous ex presents a series of big screen challenges to win back her heart.

What girl wouldn’t want to experience the Pretty Woman shopping scene? It’s number two on the list. Or, try the lift from Dirty Dancing? It’s number five. One list, ten romantic movie moments, and a handful of shenanigans later, Kenzi has to wonder . . . should she marry the man her family loves, or risk everything for a love like the movies?

Review:

I was drawn to this novel by its description.  As a movie lover, I enjoy reliving the experience of great movies by watching them again, talking about them, or by playing The Movie Game with my family.  (The Movie Game is quite fun!)  When I saw that the hero in this book was going to have the heroine participate in some of her favorite scenes from chick flicks, I had to click buy.

Let me tell you a little about Kensington “Kenzi” Shaw.  I like her.  In inner monologue is hilarious.  She feels as if her family puts her second, and in many ways they really do.  Kenzi vies for the attention of her mother and father.  She wants the same mothering as her sister in-law receives, but she just doesn’t get it.  The novel opens with her showing up at her parent’s house and showing off her flashing engagement ring from Tiffany’s that her oh-s0-perfect boyfriend, Bradley, bought her.  It gets little more than a glance.  Just a few moments later, her sister in-law announces that she’s pregnant.  Cue the fanfare, folks!

Kenzi runs into “the one that got away” – Shane Bennett.  I forgot to mention that he’s her firm’s potential client and in order for him to agree to sign a contract, he says Kenzi has to agree to reliving some of the most romantic moments from romance movies.  OH, YEAH!  He’s the opposite of uptight/perfect Bradley and he always says Kenzi’s full name with a slight British accent.  Kenzi knows how to pick ’em!

Hilarity ensues and so do some really sweet moments.  I laughed and chuckled my way through the book.  Ms. Van Tiem made characters you want to root for, even when they got nutsack crazy and try to go on covert operations (you REALLY have to read that part!).

I’m recommending this to anyone who loves a love story, for those who hope to have just a little bit a movie magic in real life, and for anyone who believes in following your heart.  Love Like the Movies is a delightful story that’s quick and easy read that will keep you entertained from cover to cover.
